Name: Her pre-reincarnated name is Chigusa Kusaka (first last), but this real name is only ever mentioned in side material. The name she is most commonly referred to is Atoli. As a reincarnated character, her name is Chigusa Bitou (first last).

Any differences: The reincarnated Chigusa more closely resembles her game character than her previous real-life self, still preferring short hair and light-colored or bright clothing.
Preincarnated History:
Chigusa Kusaka's life was rather troubled.
Ever since middle school, she met with social opposition in every aspect of her life. Her parents despised her for her attitude, as they believed that girls should be quiet, contrary to her upfront, loud nature. Her classmates refused to be friends with her for not being like them, to the point of frequent hostility (ah, teenage girls, why are you so mean?). Trying to appease one group incurred the wrath of the other. Nothing she could do would resolve the situation, but that didn't stop her from trying. She got a piercing and designer clothing. Her parents refused to let her wear them. She couldn't restrain her nature, and her failing grades only served to make the resentment of her parents worse.
Nothing she did helped the situation in any way, and she began contemplating suicide.
It was on a suicide website that she met someone going by the name of "Sakaki", who was able to convince her to join The World. This, effectively, saved her life. By so doing, Atoli gained an almost fanatical devotion to him (although she still needs to work on fear and surprise). Upon meeting Haseo later, she decided to fix his... er... attitude and considered herself one of his friends.
One of the first things she does is invite her to one of her favorite areas. After clearing it, Atoli hears an unusual sound and insists they investigate. Haseo and Atoli stumble upon a glowing sigil engraved into the back of the area's temple, which transports them to a unique area otherwise known as a Lost Ground. A glowing amoeba monster, not normally present in The World's code, attacks them. Atoli faints, but Haseo is saved by another player, Kuhn, who reveals to Haseo that the entity is a form of AIDA (Artificially Intelligent Data Anomaly).
Haseo eventually asked her to join his Arena team in a bid to knock out the Demon Palace Emperor, Endrance. She refused at first, but later warmed up to the idea and joined up, partially thanks to another player, Saku, baiting Haseo into a trap. Her twin sister Bo then promptly turned around and telling Atoli about it, and in response she messaged Sakaki and they went and saved him. Thanks to her help, and that of Silabus, a mutual friend of theirs, Haseo dethrones Endrance and becomes Demon Palace Emperor.
Not too long after that, though, she found out about Shino.
Shino was another The World character with almost the same design as Atoli's. Deluding herself into thinking that Haseo only paid attention to her because of this similarity, she runs off looking for Haseo's primary enemy Tri-Edge and leaves the normal space of The World. Finding herself in a blank white space occupied only by a set of coin-op lockers, she is attacked by an AIDA and falls unconscious. Haseo and Kuhn save her at that moment.
When she comes to, it is back in the headquarters of a guild, Raven - composed of solely the Epitaph Users Haseo, Kuhn, Pi, and their somewhat enigmatic game admin/supervisor Yata. Unfortunately, Atoli's voice chat has been disabled for some reason. Taking a suggestion from Kuhn, she attempts to log out but finds she can't. The group quickly realizes that they are now somehow inside the game. Yata asks Atoli to stay where she is since she's tired and needs rest, but she notices something is wrong with her (= her character's at this point) right hand and immediately goes off to find Sakaki.
When they meet up, Sakaki feigns concern for Atoli and in return she fills him on some things that have been going on.
A little later, Raven (henceforth, G.U.) fills in a few things:
1. Everyone is trapped in a copy/false server of The World created by AIDA
2. Atoli is an Epitaph User, and the AIDA that attacked her earlier stole her Epitaph
3. The fact that her Epitaph is missing means that Atoli's character data is degenerating
Since Atoli needs rest Haseo, Pi, and Kuhn go ahead and fix that first thing.
And then there were some side materials and some dumb game called .hack//LINK that was pretty terrible. It would be better if LINK just didn't exist if it weren't for the fact that its OP theme was pretty amazing and then got used for Project X Zone because apparently IMOQ didn't have a real theme for it??? idk WOOPS TANGENTS anyway those things didn't happen for the purposes of this application.

First Echo: What caused their first Echo, and what did it give them? Players may choose events from the timeline or a canon reoccurence. Keep these Echoes simple, but meaningful.

Chigusa is a baseline human with no special abilities. Her PC on the other hand...
As a Harvest Cleric, Atoli has access to a large variety of healing and performance-enhancing magic and some elemental spells. However, her light, water, and wind attack spells are stronger and come in more powerful versions than her dark, fire, and earth spells. The World magic is semi-Vancian in that it does the same thing every time (i.e. the spell OrLei Zas always shoots a light missile straight forwards towards its target, going through other enemies in the way.)
She also possesses the "Phase 2 Epitaph". The Epitaph allows her to summon Innis, the Mirage of Deceit, as an Avatar.
Innis' powers allow her to detect a unique sound given off by AIDA. However, given the lack of AIDA in reality and especially not Save the Earth's version of Earth, I propose that this sound detection apply to significant influence from the invaders if/when it returns to her.
Like all Epitaphs, Innis is capable of using Data Drain. Described by Aura in the original quadrilogy as "the power to alter data", it would have little application outside of a virtual environment... or rather, it WOULD, but that wouldn't be very fun. In G.U. its sole purpose is to be able to erase AIDA, while simultaneously gathering Data Seeds and AIDA's structure data.
Under the control of the AIDA, it is able to use an extremely ill-defined power, Mirage. Atoli herself is not seen using this power, but the Mirage ability is responsible for the creation of the AIDA server at the beginning of Volume 2, the second mini-AIDA-server shortly before Haseo is forced to Avatar Battle with Atoli, and the illusions of Azure Balmung and Azure Orca that assist Sirius in the Arena. Based on this, the Mirage power is able to create accurate yet flawed, copies of data on a large scale. This large scale is appropriate to the power seeing as Innis and the other Avatars are fragments of a global underlying system of the original "The World", Morganna.
